Compromised

For those of you that didn’t know, I had labs and treatment yesterday (Tuesday).  Once labs came back, the nurses let me know that my white blood cell count has fallen below the normal range.  This means my immune system is compromised and I a susceptible to any and all types of infection.

They told me if I am out in public I should wear a mask.  If anyone is coming over to our house they need to think about how healthy they are and make sure they haven’t been exposed to anything recently.

After that joyful conversation I had to walk through the gauntlet of sick people at medical associates in order to get back to my car.  I held my breath, speed walked, and didn’t touch a damn thing.

One other new development...  My hair is is starting to fall out.  I was running my hands through my beard (you know, to look thoughtful) and noticed a wad of about a dozen hairs in my hand.  The nurses that I spoke with yesterday said it may just thin a bit as opposed to all of my hair falling out.  So, I’ll keep you posted on that one.

I wonder if anyone will recognize me if I have to shave my head and my beard.  This part will either be kind of fun or kind of weird.
